About John Debella, MD
I was drawn to a career in medicine for the way it combines science with meaningful human connection. Primary care, in particular, emphasizes the aspects I value most—primary prevention of disease and longitudinal relationships with patients. Above all else, I strive to ensure that patients feel comfortable, heard, and empowered.
My professional interests include HIV medicine, HIV/STI prevention, LGBTQ+ medicine, travel medicine/global health, and culturally competent healthcare.
Dr. Debella is a native of New York’s Hudson Valley region. He attended Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with university honors and earned a degree in Public Health Studies. Before entering medical school at Brown University, he worked in HIV/STI prevention at a nonprofit organization. He returned to New York to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, and he is delighted to continue his career as a primary care physician with Cornell.
He has particular clinical interests in HIV medicine, HIV/STI prevention, LGBTQ+ health, and travel medicine/global health. In his spare time, he enjoys discovering new restaurants and coffee shops, exploring New York City’s cultural enclaves, and caring for his houseplants and aquarium fish.
